This evening, meet Sean and your fellow travellers for a hosted welcome dinner. It’s an easy, informal start to the journey—time to run through the plan for the days ahead, chat about the parks you’ll be visiting (some of Sean’s absolute favourites), and start getting excited for the safari proper.

Arrive in time to settle into your tent set beneath the winterthorn trees, then enjoy lunch with views across the river. After a short siesta, meet for afternoon tea and your first safari activity with Sean and the guiding team: a game drive, relaxed boat cruise or canoeing (conditions allowing). Return for a hearty lunch and siesta, then reconvene over tea for your afternoon activity. As dusk falls, enjoy sundowners on the river and a relaxed night drive back to camp, followed by dinner under the stars.

After lunch, rest in the shade and watch hippos from camp before heading out again in the cooler hours. Golden light, river breezes and prolific birdlife make for superb photography; after sundowners, spotlight for nocturnal species on the way back to camp and round off the day with dinner and fireside stories.

Arrive at camp in time to settle in and enjoy a late lunch or afternoon tea (timing dependent on the day’s progress). If schedules allow, head out for a gentle sundowner drive or simply soak up the views from camp. The waterhole here is wonderfully active as the heat eases.

Birding is superb—bateleurs, lilac-breasted rollers, owls after dark—so keep binoculars handy. Return for brunch and a siesta, then head out for an afternoon drive or walk as temperatures ease. Expect elephant herds, giraffe, zebra and—if luck smiles—lion or wild dog working the open grass areas or woodlands.
Return for a hearty brunch and a few hours at leisure. After tea, venture out again as the heat eases, staking out a favourite pan where sable, roan and large elephant bulls often drift in to drink. Enjoy sundowners and return to camp before dark for a relaxed dinner and fireside chat.

Birding is superb throughout (lilac-breasted rollers, kori bustards, bateleurs), and the mammal cast changes through the day, from plains game in the morning to elephant midday and predators as temperatures drop.
Return to camp for a siesta, then one last golden-hour foray and sundowners. Back in camp before nightfall, freshen up and gather for dinner under the stars while Sean recaps plans for tomorrow’s travel.

Why African Signature
Curated Destinations
The Right Place We don’t do "everywhere." We focus on the corners of Africa where the fences are down and the wildlife is still truly wild. From the floodplains of the Zambezi to the dry pans of the Kalahari, we only send you to regions where the land is vast enough to get lost in and the sightings are worth the journey.
Tailored Experiences
The Ground Level Safari isn't just about sitting in a vehicle. It’s about the crunch of grass under your boots on a walking safari, the silent glide of a boat through a reed bed, or the patience of sitting at a waterhole for three hours. We design your days around the rhythm of the animals, not the schedule of a hotel.
Sustainable Stewardship
The Real Impact Travel here has to mean something. We partner with people who are actually on the front lines—the ones running anti-poaching units, protecting habitat, and ensuring local communities see the value in keeping these lions and elephants alive. Your trip is what keeps those boots on the ground.
Travel Insurance
Protect your investment and don’t forget Travel Insurance! This is mandatory for all our bookings.
In addition to trip cancellation and interruption, most travel insurance plans include coverage for trip delay, missed connection, lost or delayed baggage, medical expenses, and emergency evacuation with repatriation of remains. 24-hour assistance services are included to help the traveller with things such as emergency medical assistance, lost baggage tracking, emergency cash transfer, emergency or last-minute travel arrangements, assistance with replacing lost travel documents and much more.
Why Buy a Travel Insurance Plan? Because Travel Mishaps Occur Every Day! No matter how hard you try, there are some things you just can’t plan for:
If a family member gets sick. If your baggage is lost. If your trip is delayed. Your passport is lost or stolen.
If the weather prevents your travel. You need to see a doctor for a sudden injury – your health insurance may not be valid overseas, and medical evacuations can be really expensive. If you miss a flight connection (- e.g. only 80% of US flights arrive on time) You don’t want to lose all your money if you have to cancel your trip. Sometimes, even expert travellers need a little help.
Please be sure that the travel insurance that you have is right for you!
