Guests can start or finish their journey in either Pretoria, South Africa, or Lilongwe, Malawi, with the route running in whichever direction suits them best.

Itinerary Overview
Setting off from Pretoria, the train winds down through the dramatic Drakensberg escarpment toward the iconic Kruger Park, where game drives await. From there, travellers venture into the mountain kingdom of Eswatini before reaching Maputo, Mozambique’s capital, a city defined by its blend of cultures and striking contrasts. The route then crosses the Limpopo River and passes through Gonarezhou National Park, known as the “place of elephants,” on the way to the Great Zimbabwe Monument, the most extensive pre-colonial structure found south of Egypt’s pyramids.
The itinerary continues with visits to Antelope Park, Harare’s art galleries and markets, and the Mutare Museum, whose collections span archaeology, ethnography, transport history and natural history — including a noteworthy display of vintage vehicles. Travellers then head to Beira, Mozambique’s busiest port city, and visit an open-pit coal mine, before unwinding with sundowners along the Zambezi River’s banks.
From there, guests fly to the palm-lined southern shores of the celebrated Lake Malawi for an overnight stop, then continue on to the woodland scenery of Liwonde National Park. Following game viewing and a cruise along the Shire River, the journey concludes with a flight into Lilongwe. The route can also be travelled in the opposite direction.

Vintage carriages combine with modern luxuries in three suite types available in double or twin: Royal ±16m2 (two per carriage), Deluxe ±10m2 (three per carriage) and Pullman/Pullman Gold ±7m2 (five per carriage).

Featuring classic wood panelling, period charm and modern conveniences, these coaches offer a refined and comfortable ride. Each Royal Suite spans half a carriage and includes its own private sitting area, along with an ensuite bathroom fitted with a Victorian-style bathtub, a separate shower, toilet and basin. Suites are designed for one or two guests, with a choice of double or twin bed arrangements. Every mattress is reversible, offering a plush side and a firmer side — guests will find the softer side facing up by default, though this can be switched upon request. Pillows are filled with faux-down microfiber and wrapped in a cotton down-proof cover. Double beds are dressed with fitted sheets and blankets during the day, with single duvets provided for the evening. A personal host or hostess is on hand throughout the journey and attends to each suite daily. Please note that suite availability may vary, and actual layouts could differ slightly from those pictured.
